Spring - Summer 2012
Mary Katrantzou’s inspiration for Spring Summer 2012 contrasts industrial fabrication with the inherent beauty of nature. Tin cans, metal drums and car parts; modernist forms used to break the body into horizontal bands. Organic prints are derived from the scales of fish, coral reefs and armies of flowers marching across the body. Colour is eye-popping and saturated. Embroidery, beading and appliqué pop flat surfaces into three dimensions. Knitwear achieves the opposite aim, streamlining Katrantzou’s aesthetic excess in deceptively simple dresses, canvasses for intricate intarsia and jacquard knits. The result? Man meets machine, meets Mother Earth. An army of petal, metal and print.
