Pre - Fall 2017
Inspired by the backs of playing cards, the Mary Katrantzou Pre Fall 2017 Collection explores the exquisitely detailed world of these overlooked patterns to delve into a plethora of plethora of pattern, colour and aesthetic.
The initial part of the collection draws from the ornate patterns of turn-of-the century William Morris prints, contrasting colours and lightweight fabrics to create perfect wardrobe pieces for the summer. Equally rich jacquards, in shades of dark green, gold, silver and royal blue add add warmth to take the Katrantzou customer all the way to early Fall. Silhouettes inspired by the 30s and 40s femme fatale figures of Hollywood, such as Lauren Bacall are evident throughout.
Playful prints are further explored in skirts pleated to resemble the action of flicking through a deck of cards. A world of surrealist prints, inspired by Salvador Dali and Jean Cocteau, containing hands of playing cards, primed lips and graphic eyes shedding crystal tears adorn handkerchief hemmed dresses, maxi pleated gowns and cotton separates. A surrealist insight on the world of cards and casinos.
Running the gamut occasions and climates, ranging from silk pyjamas through breezy chiffon and long, tiered skirts, to tailoring and tweeds, the myriad of options allows the wearer to find pieces perfect for every season. A truly trans-seasonal collection.
