Autumn - Winter 2016
Drawing inspiration from cult 60s sci-fi, futurism and the writings of Isaac Asimov and Philip K. Dick, Mary Katrantzou’s second Pre-Fall Collection portrays a colour infused portrayal of a dream like future. Feminine but sharp silhouettes are emphasised with textural colour blocking; mimicking waves, rays and ripples creating the illusion of an embossed surface. Dystopian hues of pistachio and soft pink used in illustrations of vintage robots are contrasted to deeper tones of malachite, ruby red and topaz; referencing the enamelled wavelike patterns of status symbol Qing dynasty snuffboxes. Metallics are re-imagined in knitted and silk jacquards and complemented by puzzle pieced camouflage and re-interpreted in bonded statement framis motifs on minimalist silhouettes of double sided cashmere to create a utopian vision of future history.
