Autumn - Winter 2011
Mary Katrantzou’s fantasies about the lives and precious objects of the women who lived in the rooms that she depicted for Autumn Winter 2011 are the source behind this collection. Prints are derived from priceless objets d’art; Faberge eggs, Qianlong dynasty china and Meissen porcelain. The forms of vases volumes dresses, porcelain bowls become rounded skirts, and the open halves of Faberge eggs form dramatic peplums. Imagine the sensation of entering Diana Vreeland’s famed New York apartment, decorated like ‘A Garden in Hell’, as a comparative overindulgence of the senses. Beyond monetary capital, these objects are symbolic of cultural capital, indicators of a refined, cultured eye.
