Autumn - Winter 2010

For Autumn Winter 2010, Mary Katrantzou concentrates on 18th century high society paintings and the dresses worn by the women portrayed in them. Influenced by the work of artist Glenn Brown, Katrantzou splices elements of different dresses together, creating a patchwork of pieces through her prints, re-assessing these gowns for a 21st century woman. A silk draped detail from one painting is met by the structured look of a napoleonic jacket, the string of pearls worn by Madame Pompidou and the ornate jewels found on a period snuff box. Baroque inspired jewellery, is the perfect accompaniment to a collection dedicated to excess..
